Mission Statement
Islamic Culture and Civilisation went roughly through the following main phases:
(a) Formation: Conquests and establishing the state 100-150 years (ending roughly around: 780 CE)
(b) Growth of Knowledge, Culture and Civilisation. Creative phase: 400-450 years, peaking with Ghazaali, Ibn Rushd (Averros), ... etc, ca: 1150 CE.
(c) Stagnation of Knowledge, Culture and Civilisation. Encyclopaedic works, but little creativity and little Ijtihaad. Examples: Ibn Taymiyyah, Dhahabi, ..etc; ending roughly with Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani and Soyouti (Soyouti died in 911 Hijrah / 1505 CE)
(d) Military strength (Ottoman Caliphate) combined with decline in Knowledge, Culture and Civilisation up to 1750 CE.
(e) Collapse, both in military and cultural aspects from 1750 CE to 1950 CE. Some revival attempts: Wahhaabi movement on the popular level, Afghani and Abdu on the intellectual level, Sultan Abdul-Majeed's and the Bay of Tunisia reform attempts on state level. Mostly failures!!
(f) Serious attempts of revival starting after WWII. Only on the popular and intellectual level. Government are Weak, corrupt and lacking any real vision.
So the disease is very old, much older than any foreign invasion!!
Non-Islamist believe Islam is the DISEASE (although they do not dare saying it publicly), so: WESTERNISE!!!
Islamist believe: Islam is a Divine Revelation, thus it is rationally impossible to be the disease , so: REVIVE!!!
Hence: Islamic thought and creativity has to be revived, almost from scratch!! |
