Genealogist

Hilda McGauley,
M.Sc. My background is in Science, however, genealogy has been a lifelong interest and I eventually came to work, professionally, as a Genealogist and a Record Agent eight years ago. Based in Dublin, I have access to all repositories and have developed a wide experience in all aspects of genealogical research. By restricting my activities to the fairly narrow field of record searching I am able to offer you a personal, efficient and rapid service. If you don't know the birthplace of your ancestor in Ireland it's best to begin your search with a marriage records search, if your ancestor married before leaving Ireland. If this is successful it may lead to searching for other records such as birth records, census records, land records and wills. However, if your ancestor left Ireland before he/she married it may be best to begin your search with a birth records search.
Irish Citizenship Because of the volume of requests from people who are applying for Irish citizenship, a birth records search and a birth certificate package has been put together. The birth record of their ancestor born in Ireland will be searched and, if the search is successful, the birth certificate (a certified copy of the record, otherwise known as a 'Long Form') will be forwarded to them. Expedited Service Because of being based in Dublin, Ireland, if a record is required urgently, an expedited search may be undertaken and, if successful, the certificate will be despatched by express courier service within ten working days from the date of ordering. This service may be ordered by special arrangement.

On-Line Ordering Service
This is an opportunity for you to direct your own genealogical research by ordering
professional genealogical record searching of specific records. This genealogical service is also a cost effective way of finding information on your
ancestors and filling in gaps in your family history.
It is in your own interest to be sure of the
information you provide in your request. Please understand that every effort is made to locate
the information for you but the results depend on the accuracy of your input and on the content
of the records.
This on-line ordering facility is a document search service. This means that
you pay for a search of a specific document. If that record is found a copy
will be forwarded to you at no extra cost. Please understand that some searches
are not successful. This may be because the record is just not there. In this
case the RESULT of the search will be forwarded to you by e-mail. This means, in the case of birth records, marriage records or death records a search of five consecutive years of the Indexes will be undertaken and the results will be e-mailed to you.
Documents, if found, are supplied by e-mail, either as a text extract or a
scanned image. In the case of a scanned image, the original photocopy will also
be forwarded by regular mail. Birth records, marriage records and death records are in the form of photocopies and scanned images. The 1901 Census, 1911 Census, Griffith's Primary Valuation and the Tithe Applotment Books
are usually photocopies and scanned images. The Valuation Office Revision Books are usually transcriptions.
Post-1905 Wills are photocopies and scanned images. Others, such as Betham's Abstracts and Inland Revenue Abstracts are transcriptions.
All genealogical research is conducted in Dublin at the various repositories, including the National Library of Ireland, the National Archives of Ireland, the General Register Office, the Valuation Office, the Registry of Deeds,
the Gilbert Library and the Representative Church Body Library. So, in a way, you will be doing your own Irish genealogy research in Dublin by proxy.
