I am not what you would call a “saint,” I am just an average Christian like everyone else. However, just 24 short months ago my life was going nowhere, and fast. I definitely needed a miracle to turn my life around.

My name is Randy McLean (sole creator of Prayer For Power.com) and for years I battled anxiety disorder. I have nothing against living at home with your parents but I didn’t have a choice. I would bounce from job to job never keeping one for more than a couple of months.

Beyond the anxiety I was beginning to think I was going crazy. I never had my first serious girlfriend until I was 27. Three months later she was gone. It seemed that the harder I tried the worse things got.

I remember being so desperate to turn my life around that I tried anything I could. Medication, psychiatrists, counseling at church, self-improvement courses - you name it.

Nothing worked to the degree I wanted it to. I always ended up resorting to my old habits. I thought I was cursed, I thought it was “bad luck.” Within those few years tragedy after tragedy kept happening to me. It finally all came to a standstill when I had a nervous breakdown.

I wasn’t asking for much, a decent job I could handle, a partner to love me and the feeling of independence. Yet since high school it just never happened for me, the cycle just started repeating again.

I often wondered, would I ever get any of these things?

After observing myself and many others I soon started noticing that Christians depend on themselves way too much when faced with trials. From something smaller like losing your keys to something larger like losing your spouse, most people react the same way every time.

How many times have you heard or said “all we can do now is pray?” If we as Christians believe in a God that is so powerful shouldn’t prayer be the first thing we do? Yet many of us still struggle with reluctance and procrastination.

Prayer should be the first thing that you do, not the last.

God wants to help you and see you happy but He can’t help you if you don’t ask Him. The devil will then sift you like wheat throwing doubt and discouragement into your life and into your mind.

Intrigued by my initial findings on prayer in my Bible, I started looking to other sources for information on the deeper aspects of prayer. The internet, Christian bookstores, interviews, concordances and tracts were a great start. What I soon learned REALLY shocked and surprised me but must be understood if you want to fully unlock the full power of prayer in your life. Here are a few examples:

There is a spiritual world that is parallel to and just as real as the physical world we live in.

While this may overwhelm or even frighten some it is a Biblical truth. There are countless verses in the Bible that make reference to this fact. Ephesians chapter 6, verse 12 is a prime example. We should only be concerned with things that can be proven Biblically, not fables.

What we do in our physical world will have dramatic effects in the spiritual realm.

How we behave, how we pray, and the decisions we make can have a dramatic effect behind the scenes. Not only between angels and demons, but also between us and our Father. We need to know as much about God and His character as we can.

When we sin, Satan and his demons have legal right to operate in our lives.

Though this view may seem “unpopular” it is fact. As soon as King Saul became jealous of David an evil spirit from God came upon him. Truth has never been popular. Noah and the ark is a prime example. Out of the whole antediluvian world, only 8 were saved. We need to learn to recognize and accept truth when presented to us.

It is possible to be “blind” without knowing it.

Sometimes we may need help and not even realize it! The more time we spend with God, the clearer we will see spiritual things. Spiritual things and situations can only be interpreted spiritually. It has nothing to do with human education.

We do not need to be afraid!

God is sovereign. He knows our past, our present, and our future. Nothing will happen to us apart from His will. This ranges from our personal lives all the way to the rising and falling of nations.

Above all else, you must WANT to change. The Lord knows your heart. He knows how serious you are and how hard you are willing to work at it.

Although the quote “the Lord helps those who help themselves” is not found in the Bible the principle is there. If you are drowning and refuse to grab a life preserver all the prayer in the world won’t help you.

You must realize that Jesus is your Best Friend. He loves you and wants to help you. By spending time with Him the process is actually twofold. We will get what we ask for in a genuine manner and we will build a solid relationship with God.

This will then change our lives, benefit those around us and most importantly secure our future.

After I made up my mind that I wanted to change, I started applying the principles on prayer that I had found. Not only did God answer my prayers, He gave me the strength and courage that I needed along the way.

I finally moved out of my parents house to go and live with my brother, 6 hours away from my hometown. With help from God and my brother I managed to get a job at the same company my brother works at. Two years later I haven’t looked back.

After that, I became really focused and motivated. That is what answered prayer does. It increases your faith. I was finally reaching my goals with God’s help.

Four months after this God finally answered my prayer by sending me my lifetime partner Christine. In fact, I just arrived from the Philippines to meet her and her family. We have been together a year and a half now and will be married next year.

At the same time I also started an internet business. While I am not “rich” I do enjoy many luxuries I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

For years I was always craving and absorbing all of the information that I could. My nose was always buried in books and in the Bible. I had so many hours to spare because I wasn’t working due to my disability.
