How would you react if I told you that your interview, so far, was TERRIBLE?

ANSWER

'This SEEMS a difficult interview question - but it's not.  

Stop for a moment and really think...... how would you react if your interviewer said that to you?

Would  you get angry and annoyed? 

If so, you would have fallen for the TRAP. 

Listen to the question again and this time pay close attention to the most important word in the question -'If'.

The interviewer is not saying that your interview is terrible.  He is asking: "How would you react  IF I said your interview was terrible."

In other words, he is trying to find out how you REACT to..... criticism. 

That's all.

So listen carefully to the question and don't fall for the bait.  

Let the interviewer see you..... calmly considering the question and then begin your respond:

"Well, I'd be quite surprised and rather sad. I have put a lot of work into preparing for this interview and getting this job is very important to me.

May I ask you, what parts of my presentation did you consider were not up to an acceptable standard? If you could pinpoint these areas to me, maybe I could go over them again and clear up any misunderstandings that might exist. I'm sure that's where the problem lies"

Try to respond to this question along the above diplomatic lines. In fact, what you say in response to this question is not nearly as important as your original emotional response.

You have not got angry, emotional, upset, depressed or defeatist. You have not thrown in the towel despite the interviewer's apparent criticism of your performance - but you have come out fighting. 

Unknown to yourself you have already passed the interviewer's real test.'

Imagine...... the difference that will make to your interview performance this week. 

Imagine... how much more prepared and confident you will feel before....and during your  interview.

It could make all the difference between  earning NOTHING ..or a big salary each week.

I have been teaching interview skills to people for nearly 20 years now ...and for some reason (it always amazes me!) it's always the last thing people think about.

Yet, if you get it wrong....it could destroy all your years of  hard work and study.

Couldn't it?

And here is something else you must never forget: It is something I have been banging into my student's heads  for the past twenty years.
 

Never forget this. And then consider this:

Look, you have done all the HARD work. You've got your qualifications and/or  work experience.

Why put it  at risk now by not learning this VITAL career-skill, the art of interviewing. 

For example again , imagine you were asked..... 

• When do you expect a promotion?
   

• Would you like my job?
  

• Would you be willing to relocate in the future?
  

• How long will you stay with the company?
  

• Would you take a Lie detector test?
  

• Did/Does  your staff come to you with their personal problems? 
  

• What plan of s do you take when facing a problem ?
  

• What is the most boring job you have ever done?
  

• How did you do at it?
  

• How do you react to criticism by superiors if you believe it is unwarranted?
  

• In your current job, do you make frequent use of e-mails?
  

• Describe the best company you ever worked for?
