“I Stole This From the Casinos” It’s the same principle that Las Vegas casinos and insurance companies use to make billions and billions of dollars every year. It’s called the Law of Large Numbers. A large volume of FREE traffic is the single most important thing you must have to be successful on the Internet. Notice that I said FREE traffic, not just traffic. If you don’t have free traffic, then you’ll have to buy Pay-Per-Click keywords or Google AdWords. Both of these are fine if you just want to test a product, but relying on them for obtaining traffic to support your business can be extremely expensive. So expensive in fact, that you might end up not even making a profit. Almost every day I get a newsletter from a self-proclaimed guru who is promoting another traffic generation scheme. Usually its by writing e-zine articles or by some new and secret method guaranteed to increase your mailing list by a thousand subscribers a day. All this is nonsense of course, but I don’t rely on either of these methods anyway. Not because I’m closed minded, but  because I’ve already tried them. I know from experience that when you post your articles on e-zine directory sites,people just steal your articles and rewrite them for their own purposes. Mailing lists are great, and you have to work on them, but realistically if you don’t have good daily traffic now, it takes a year or more to build up a list with enough subscribers to generate minimal traffic volumes.  I hate to pop anyone’s bubble, but the only magic bullet is traffic. “So where do you get all this FREE traffic?” If you are looking for large amounts of water then where do you go? OK, here they are: STEP 1:  You absolutely positively must know where you stand with your Googletm rankings for the top 20 to 30 niche keywords associated with your product. Increasing your rankings is all about making incremental improvements. So you must have a benchmark to know where you are starting from. I suggest using a spreadsheet to record each keyword, its position, and the date of the ranking. You’ll need this to track your ranking improvements over time. Use Overture or Wordtracker to find the best keywords for your site. If your website is buried somewhere beyond the 50th position, then it might take 5 to 10 minutes per keyword to locate your ranking position. So to find and record the information for 30 keywords count on devoting 1 to 5 hours. If you have more than one website, then select the one with the biggest revenue potential and focus on that one.
